Escape to the country for a piece of paradise.
Bent Nail Farm is probably one of the smallest micro farms in Georgia, if not the smallest. Even so, it is a little piece of heaven, country living away from all of the hustle, bustle and synergy that is Atlanta. There is a story behind our name. One day as my husband and I sat on the steps of our front porch gazing at our front field, he remarked is was our hands that created this little piece of paradise. Through hard labor, clever recycling of materials and repurposing we had created our little piece of paradise. It brought me back to a story my husband had shared with me about a time he was helping my Dad. The two of them were building my Dad’s boat deck on Lake Martin. My husband, a general contractor, told my Dad that he needed nails. Dad, of course, said he had some, jumped up and went into the boat house to get the nails. He proceeded to hand Wade a mason jar of bent nails. Having spent a lifetime as a general contractor, flattening bent nails with a hammer was a new concept for my husband. He got to work straightening the bent but sturdy nails and the two of them completed the task at hand. My Dad, a retired USAF colonel, spent his life building his wealth, not by way of his pilot career in the Air Force, but through the sweat of his own brow and by repurposing and recycling materials to make things happen affordably yet with quality and attention to detail. As I thought about all we had done on our two acre micro farm, I realized that we had followed in his footsteps. In homage to my father we named our little slice of paradise Bent Nail Farm. Bent Nail Farm is a place of tranquility where you can meditate under the ancient oak tree, lie in the hammock and read a good book, or sleep, watch the deer nibble the grass, stare you down then gracefully leap the fence. The song of the coyotes can be heard at dawn. Bunny rabbits hop stealthy across the grass in hopes of a morning feast from the vegetable garden. Garden fairies dot the landscape while butterflies and hummingbirds flit among the flowers. Come down the country lane after a busy business day or family events or just getting away and join us for a break from this busy world. It is truly a place of peace and my husband and I would be honored to share it with you.
